6th Lt. Joseph Szczerba Memorial 5k
Lieutenant Joseph Szczerba, an 18 year veteran of the New Castle County Police Department and a 1985 graduate of Salesianum School, was killed in the line of duty on September 16, 2011. To honor his legacy, Salesianum has established a scholarship in his name. All proceeds of the 5k Run/ Walk will benefit this fund.

SERVPRO of Bear/New Castle participated in this exciting event by sponsoring the PAW Patrol character appearances.
Community Day was launched in 2017 as a part community event and part fundraiser for the Corporal Ballard Memorial Fund, proceeds from which went to benefit the families of fallen State Troopers. Both State and New Castle County Police are actively involved in the event, as were our local fire departments, state and local political representatives, and our community at large.
This year's proceeds will be donated to the police and fire departments’ charity of choice.
